Mitchell-Innes & Nash is pleased to announce the opening of their exhibition "David Douglas Duncan Photographs Picasso" which is scheduled to run from November 29, 2000 through January 6, 2001.

It is rare that an artist opens his studio, his home and his life for public record to the extent that Pablo Picasso did for David Douglas Duncan and his camera. Duncan met Picasso February 8, 1956. Duncan photographed Picasso for the next 17 years until Picasso’s death in 1973. He continued to photograph Jacqueline Roque (whom Picasso married in 1961) until 1980. The result is a near-25 year body of work which functions as a living diary documenting the artist, his many moods, his friends and family and his work.

For the first time since 1981 Duncan’s vintage photographs will be on view in a comprehensive single-artist exhibition devoted to this extraordinary friendship. Mitchell-Innes & Nash will present over 50 photographs which range from Duncan’s first moments with Picasso to his final visit with Jacqueline.

A fully illustrated catalogue with an essay by David Douglas Duncan and an introduction by Paloma Picasso will accompany the exhibition and will be available through the Gallery. An opening night reception will take place at Mitchell-Innes & Nash on November 29 from 6 to 8 pm.
