Pope.L at the Renaissance Society, University of Chicago

The Renaissance Society is proud to conclude its 2012-13 season with Forlesen, a new installation by Chicago-based interdisciplinary artist Pope.L. At issue for Pope.L is the manner in which difference is demarcated economically, socially, culturally, and politically, most prominently in the opposition between blackness and whiteness. With this project, the artist furthers his investigation through an array of drawings, sculptures, and multi-media projections that transform the gallery into a dizzying labyrinth. Forlesen marks Pope.L’s first solo exhibition in Chicago since moving to the city to join the faculty of The University of Chicago’s Department of Visual Arts.
