Press Release
Mitchell-Innes & Nash is pleased to announce the exhibition Alberto Giacometti: Painted Portraits at the gallery's Madison Avenue location. The exhibition gathers together a focused group of painted portraits from the 1950s (a period of intense painterly exploration for the artist) depicting two of Giacometti's most vital subjects: his brother, Diego, and his wife, Annette.
Most frequently celebrated as a sculptor, the show seeks to re-connect the viewer with Giacometti's psychologically fraught painting technique in which the artist's subject is seemingly conjured out of dark fields of paint through the use of delicate tangles of incised lines and subtle shifts of hue.
Alberto Giacometti: Painted Portraits will be on view from May 25 through June 25 at Mitchell-Innes & Nash's uptown gallery, Monday to Friday, 10 am to 5 pm.
